As part of the new syllabus G3 pupils made rakes, dustpans and brushes and wheeled them up to the market centre in an effort to help clean up the market.
Well done boys and girls for the clean up and big thanks to Tr Josephine for this initiative. During the school holidays 3 of our staff and 11 pupils benefited from a full day of First Aid Training.
Staff and pupils are now equipped with simple first aid skills and will be more alert and active. They will contribute to enhancing the safety of the school. Well done to everyone involved! Back in 2017 we met Richard Tilney-Bassett, a British photographer moving between hosts and countries through a back-to-back series of creative trades. Exchanging photography for all of his needs in a mission to reach every continent without needing money. We provided food, travel and accommodation in exchange for these amazing captures of the daily runnings of school and life in Kenya. Take a look at this page This year's end of school trip for pre-school and Classes 1 and 2
took them on a guided walk in the animal park at Blue Post Hotel, followed by a fairground treat at Maxland Hotel Juja Mall and finally a baridi sana (very cold) swim at the Hotel's paddling pool. So many big smiles and lots of laughter, it will surely be a day they will never forget. For Class 3 and above the end of term education trip took them to the Mwea Irrigation Scheme where they consolidated their classwork relating to irrigation by being shown the process of irrigating fields of rice.
Following this a swift visit to Saganna Tanneries where they were shown how leather goods are made. Finally a visit to Sun City Recreational grounds allowed them an afternoon of fun at the fairground and a swim. What a day! - The Pupils really enjoyed themselves. Two volunteers from England, Matt and Bex, arrived in March and spent three months assisting with PE and helping out in the preschool classes. They were surprised to see that the school field where the children play was essentially
"...a dust bowl on a hill and resembled Gloucestershire’s Coopers Hill Cheese Chase. The gradient ruined any sport you would want to play and during the dry season turned the red soil into a dust bowl." They set about fundraising and managed to raise £724 in order to level the playing field and build an adventure playground. We are so grateful for their contribution which has significantly improved PE lessons and given our pupils the opportunity to develop their skills through play. We asked for help through a Global Giving Campaign to fund roof insulation of our classrooms which, due to the corrugated iron building structure, became unbearably hot during the day.
We were absolutely delighted with the response we received as the funding received matched our target. We installed ceilings in each of the classrooms which significantly reduced the amount of heat released into the class. For now our teachers and pupils are experiencing a comfortable temperature within which to work. The noise level has also reduced. Thank you so much for your support. Members of Grace Point Church, Portland, Texas very kindly donated enough funds for us to replace the one environmentally unfriendly wood burning stove with two that need much less wood.
The extra stove means that we are able to serve food in a much shorter time than usual. Thank you so much to all who donated. |
