It's easier than you may think to fundraise!
Cake Bakes are a popular and easy way to raise funds. Simply ask each of your work colleagues to bring to work a home made cake or batch of biscuits and then sell in the workplace. Everyone loves cake!
A sponsored walk or run is another great way to raise money and gather support for Roko 20.
It raises awareness of Roko 20 too.

Some Success Stories’
Jude's farewell
A big Thank You @Jude Amer, who came to volunteer at Roko 20 Academy back in January 2019.
Jude did a great job with teaching computer and PE lessons.
Jude recently left her place of work and asked her colleagues to pass on her leaving collection in a donation to Roko 20.
This was such a lovely gesture and we received an amazing £500 which will go towards buying text books for our Grade 5 and Grade 7. Any surplus will help buy materials for our new classroom.
We wish Jude all the very best in her next volunteering position in Mexico.
Buena suerte!

Bake Sale eventBig thanks to Tom Harvey, Marie Martin and friends
for raising £400 in a bake sale event. Amazing support! Thanks |
PC rescue donation
Many thanks to Adam Pollard-Powell c/o PC Rescue for another kind donation of a laptop.
The recent installation of WiFi at the school is allowing our pupils to become more computer savvy and connect improve communications worldwide. Another local business supporting Roko 20 |
Improving SportMatt and Bex volunteered at Roko 20 Academy in 2018 teaching children new sports and activities.
We are very grateful for their fundraising efforts as they raised over $800 in funds to level the playing field and construct an adventure playground to improve sport at Roko 20. In addition staff members were first aid trained to ensure that sport can be safer not only for Roko 20 children but also for other pupils at events where Roko 20 attend. Great job! |
Linking with Harvey Road Primary School in the UK has enabled our pupils to exchange pen-pal letters and in so doing gain an insight into how life is in UK and Kenya.
We are grateful to the Head Teacher, Nick Rowlands, for organising fund raising events to include a "mufti day" where children make a financial contribution for not wearing school uniform and for selling our elderly ladies' hand woven Kiondo baskets. We look forward to developing this link further. |
In November 2016 we were visited
by David and Kirsteen McGrory, who were kind enough to supply the whole school with Dundee United t-shirts, run football competitions, and teach our students some traditional Dundee United chants. |
spring of Hope foundation |
Johnny's charity run |
Big thanks to Springs of Hope Foundation Director,
Jennifer Hughes-Bystrom who fund raised on our behalf through Global Giving. We received enough funds to build a library and 8 girls latrines. |
Johnny completed the 69 mile " The Wall" trek for Roko 20 because he wanted to raise funds to educate wonderful kids.
In Kenya £180 can school a child for 12 months. Johnny aimed at raising enough money to school 4 pupils for a year. He was able to raise a total of £540. Thanks a lot, Johnny! |
The legacy of Hamish Woodward lives on at Roko 20
The Hamish Learning Centre was constructed in 2015 in honour of Hamish Woodward, late husband to Concheta Woodward. She carried out his wishes to help the poor and very kindly donated enough funds to construct two new classrooms, a dining hall and kitchen, 4 store-rooms and purchased a new school mini-bus.
The Hamish Learning Centre enabled us to grow as a school and add a much needed three new classes.
As our school has grown so has the need to improve our buildings. Without the support of Mrs Woodward our cooks would have struggled in the tiny shack of a kitchen. (pictured above)
Mrs Woodward has a particular passion for helping the elderly grandmothers to bring in an income and every year, before the rainy seasons, donates beans and maize seeds to each of the 41 members for planting.
Not afraid to get stuck in you will find Mrs Woodward in the kitchen cooking lunch and serving tea for the elderly ladies at one of their regular school group meetings.
Mrs Woodward's Christmas Parties at Roko 20 are famous. We don't know how she does it but each year she cooks a delicious Christmas lunch for everyone including our children, the elderly ladies group and staff. That's over 150 lunches. Everyone takes home a gift handed out by Father Christmas himself.
A good friend with a big heart we would certainly not be where we are today without Mrs Woodward's support
Obrigada muito Hamish and Mrs Woodward!
