Many elderly grandparents are struggling to raise their orphaned grandchildren with very little means.
To provide these ladies with support we formed an Elderly Ladies Group whose members are all over the age of 70. The group come together at Roko 20 to socialize, have lunch and weave the traditional Kenyan Kiondos (baskets made from sisal and wool). We assist by selling their baskets in the UK and abroad. The proceeds are given directly to the grandmothers less 10% which is kept in a fund by Roko 20. This fund is set aside to buy maize and beans planting seeds for handing out before the rainy season and towards a Health Fund to pay for medical costs when needed. |
