Schools in Kenya closed on 16th March as a preventative measure to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
With the closure of Roko 20 we are aware of the difficulties now faced by our families to provide their children with food, particularly breakfast and lunch. Following closure we distributed the remaining food in our store directly to those families most in need. We continue to provide support with the distribution of emergency supplies. Families at risk and members of our elderly ladies group have already received rice, oil, salt, beans, maize, soap and masks. Measures have been put in place to limit the risk of infection and only one parent is allowed to come to school at any one time for collection. We adhere to social distancing and a hand-washing facility is provided near the entrance to the school gate to avoid the risk of spreading the virus during this process. In addition we take the opportunity when handing over the food to educate about the symptoms of COVID-19 and steps they can take to prevent its spread, including safe and effective hand-washing techniques. We are of course monitoring the situation and will continue supporting our families until we receive further instructions from the Ministry of Education regarding the reopening of schools. Thank you for your continued support. |
