Schools in Kenya closed on 16th March as a preventative measure to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
With the closure of Roko 20 we are aware of the difficulties now faced by our families to provide their children with food, particularly breakfast and lunch. Following closure we distributed the remaining food in our store directly to those families most in need. We continue to provide support with the distribution of emergency supplies. Families at risk and members of our elderly ladies group have already received rice, oil, salt, beans, maize, soap and masks. Measures have been put in place to limit the risk of infection and only one parent is allowed to come to school at any one time for collection. We adhere to social distancing and a hand-washing facility is provided near the entrance to the school gate to avoid the risk of spreading the virus during this process. In addition we take the opportunity when handing over the food to educate about the symptoms of COVID-19 and steps they can take to prevent its spread, including safe and effective hand-washing techniques. We are of course monitoring the situation and will continue supporting our families until we receive further instructions from the Ministry of Education regarding the reopening of schools. Thank you for your continued support.

Thanks to Maureen Sutton for the donation of knitted sweaters from the ladies of Milford library and Haverfordwest Leisure Centre Knit & Natter groups.
As you can see these beautifully made sweaters look amazing. It was so thoughtful of the ladies in these groups to spend the time knitting for our pupils. Asante Sana, thank you very much from us all. xx Thanks to your support 2019 was a great year for Roko 20 raising funds on GlobalGiving. We are thrilled to be an active member of the GlobalGiving community and proud to share some highlights from our past year. (2019)
We raised £ 7,568 on GlobalGiving, £908 of which was raised by the GlobalGiving team through bonus prizes, matching money, corporate partnerships, gift card redemptions, and marketing efforts. We activated 59 donors to support our work on GlobalGiving. We raised an average of £46 from each donation this year. We raised £1,172 in recurring donations from 9 monthly donors. We participated in 4 GlobalGiving campaigns and contests. We’ve also received the GlobalGiving Staff Favorite badge, because our organization was selected by a member of the GlobalGiving team as their favorite! This is indicated on our project pages and it means our projects will show up under the GlobalGiving Staff Favorite search feature. We look forward to our journey together in the year ahead! This weekend our good friend Douglas cooked an enormous pot of this DELICIOUS stew at his home and invited friends and family to lunch as a way of raising funds for Roko 20. Those who came kindly donated money for our cause and even those who couldn't make it donated to our Account. He raised over £250 and still contributions are coming in... Obrigada! A big thanks to Douglas and to all those who contributed and supported this delicious fundraising event.
This year's Christmas Party was a huge success and even bigger than last year as parents and guardians of our pupils were also invited to enjoy the festivities along with our pupils, staff and the ladies of our Elderly Group.
A delicious lunch was served by our two amazing cooks with support from the parents. A gift handed out to everyone from a mysterious Santa followed by games and dancing ending with ice-cream and cake. All of this made possible by the kindness and generosity of our biggest supporter. A lady who would like to remain nameless ... God Bless you! |
