Many elderly grandparents are struggling to raise their orphaned grandchildren with very little means.
To provide these ladies with support we formed an Elderly Ladies Group whose members are all over the age of 70.
The group come together at Roko 20 to socialize, have lunch and weave the traditional Kenyan Kiondos (baskets made from sisal and wool). We assist by selling their baskets in the UK and abroad. The proceeds are given directly to the grandmothers less 10% which is kept in a fund by Roko 20. This fund is set aside to buy maize and beans planting seeds for handing out before the rainy season and towards a Health Fund to pay for medical costs when needed.
The products sold by Roko 20 can be purchased through our Facebook page (@roko20academy). Prices start from as little as £10 for a small basket rising up to £19 for a large.
The goat project allowed parents and guardians of our sponsored pupils to receive an income and provide milk for their family.
A female goat was donated to one of our families and when the first female is born it was given to another family in need.
A good quality male stud is used to service the female goats.
