Sponsoring a child is at Roko 20 means much more than simply providing an education. The child's family is also assisted.
We identify problems faced by the family as a whole and run projects aimed at helping families out of poverty so that they have a chance to become financially self-sufficient.
Our projects are designed to be sustainable.
We ask as a condition of sponsorship that the parent/guardian agrees to volunteer at the school two days a month. We do this for two reasons. It helps the parents feel valued no matter how basic thier skills. Sme help in the garden and green house, other help with animal care. Some simply sit and sort beans and corn. However the level of skill is not what is important, we believe it is the the self esteem gained by the contribution to the school and to therefore to education and welfare of their child that is of value. In the process parents also have the opportnity learn new skills ie: horticulture, carpentry, animal welfare and also domestic economics and budgeting.
