The idea for the Kindergarderten came about after I had spent 11 months in Kenya as a volunteer at a school for porphans. I was so inspired by the reslience of the children that I decided to return to Kenya and use my savings to set up a Kindergarten eduating orphans and disadvantanged childern for free.
Roko 20 Academy opened in 2014. We are based in Mukuyu Kambirwa, Murang'a, Murang'a County, Central Highlands, Kenya
We currently have five classrooms, a library and computer room. The school has its own kitchen and dining hall. We also provide volunteer sleeping quarters, a big shamba (garden) with lots of mango and papaya trees, a greenhouse and a big football pitch.
Early years education starts at Pre-school and with Baby Class. Children enter this class aged 3 years. They progress from Baby Class to Nursery and then to Pre-unit class.
We are unique in offering early years education. Our Baby and Nursery classes affords our children a 3 year head start before commencing the State required Primary Education in Class 1. Not only does it give the children a head start but it also proved them with social stimulation and 3 meals a day. Many of these very young children would otherwise be left at home alone or with a sick elderly relative whilst thier parents are away at work.
We follow the Kenyan 8–4–4 system of education. This means that children receive 8 years of primary education, 4 years of secondary education and 4 years of university education.
We eat the vegetables and fruit which we grow. We also have are hens, rabbits and three goats and of course Paco the friendly dog.
